Yes... thank you all for coming. It is a sad day for all of us. As most of you know by now, the great Estelle Getty passed on this morning at the age of 84, causing an absolute code-red panic/crisis situation for gays everywhere. My Facebook account is absolutely overflowing with condolence messages. I would liken it to the Kennedy assassination or the attacks of September 11th, but I do not want to downplay anything. To honor her wonderful memory, I have been watching all seven seasons of The Golden Girls on loop. (As we say on Passover, "how is this night different from any other night?") I would like to briefly salute this fabulous lady by posting a little gem of hers, but by first saying: Thank you, Estelle! Thank you for warming our hearts with laughter all these years and for being matzah bawll soup for our souls. Myself included, not one of the young gay men I know would be half the loud-mouthed, bitchy 80-year-old Sicilian woman he is today without your unwavering guidance and immeasurable brilliance. We love you... always... (and then I walk out the front door, wait a beat, and then scurry back in through the lanai)... OH MY GOD, WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! (If you get that reference, you are gay. Like, seriously.)
Anyway... "Thaaaaanks for the Medicare!"
I'm gonna go eat a cheesecake.
Someone hold me.
